Icon!t: a white folder and picture on a mild blue tile

Made for Windows File Explorer

Icon!t

A little character for your folders.
Turn a picture into a folder icon, right where your folders live.

Right-click. Choose. Make it yours.

  1. Right-click a folder in File Explorer and open Icon!t.
  2. Choose an image from a file, a direct image URL, or the clipboard.
  3. Crop a square, then select Create and apply. Your folder gets its new icon.

Already have an .ico file? Choose Icon from app library and pick it. The picker starts in your Icon!t library, but you can browse anywhere.

To return to the familiar Windows folder, choose Reset.

One small menu. Your choice of image.

From a file
Pick a local image with the Windows file picker. Common raster formats, AVIF, JPEG XL and self-contained SVG are supported by Icon!t.
From a URL
Paste a direct HTTP or HTTPS image URL. The image is downloaded, validated, and sent to the same crop workflow.
From the clipboard
Use a copied bitmap image. The command is available when the clipboard advertises a supported image buffer.
From your library
Reuse a generated icon, or apply an ICO created by another app. There is no extra crop step.

Generated ICOs contain seven sizes, from 16 to 256 pixels. SVG input is restricted to passive, self-contained vector artwork.

A library you can reuse.

New icons are saved in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Iconit\Icons. Open that folder from Settings whenever you want to reuse an icon.

Keep files that your folders use. Folder icons reference their ICO files; moving or deleting those files breaks the reference. External ICOs remain at the location you selected.

Settings also lets you enable or disable the Explorer menu and choose among 16 interface languages. Icon actions stay in Explorer.

Images are decoded and cropped locally. Choosing an image URL contacts that server and its redirects to download the image. Icon!t does not upload the selected image to an image-processing service.

The app stores generated ICO files and local preferences in your Windows account. Applying or resetting an icon changes the selected folder’s Windows customization settings.

Microsoft Store update and rating requests contact Microsoft when those features are available. Automatic rating requests are optional to complete and limited in frequency.
